Headquartered in Antwerp, the International Gemological Institute is the largest independent gem certification and appraisal institute in the world, providing grading and identification services for diamonds, coloured stone and jewellery. While not actually part of the diamond and jewellery trade, the iconic Porsche most definitely is an automobile of choice among members of a trade, and its presence at the show adds to the spirit of luxury and power of the CARAT+ event. Founded in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1931, by Ferdinand (Ferry) Porsche, he later said: “In the beginning, I looked around and could not find the car I'd been dreaming of – a small, lightweight sports car that uses energy efficiently. So I decided to build it myself.” It’s that same spirit, which the automobile manufacturer refers to as the Porsche Principle, which led to the creation of CARAT+. Visitors to the show will be reminded of it by the prominent display of Porsche cars in the event halls of the show.
